CBCF - Mother Daughter Breakfast Program

Since 2005, the Pace Group has coordinated and managed the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s annual Mother Daughter Breakfast Tour which travels the province speaking with teens and their mothers about early detection and ways of decreasing younger women’s risks of developing breast cancer.

The Mother Daughter Breakfast Tour presented to more than 2,100 participants in 28 school districts throughout the province in 2008. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s message about early detection was communicated in person in 50 presentations to students and their mothers during the third year of the Tour. The Pace Group worked closely with school district superintendents, principals, teachers and students to coordinate visits to the schools

One in nine women in British Columbia is affected by this disease, but lifestyle choices such as not smoking, healthy eating and staying physically active can play an important role in reducing breast cancer risk. Communicating this message to young women and their mothers is important and may help save the lives of many women.

Objectives:

Promote the value of regular screening mammography and the importance of early detection in fighting breast cancer. Increase awareness of breast cancer among teenage girls. Introduce the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to the next generation of women who may be volunteers, supporters or donors.

Outcomes:

Direct contact with 2,100-plus young women and their mothers through 50 province wide school visits, as well as significant media coverage about the cause and the foundation.
