The Pace Group has been contracted to coordinate and manage each of Vancouver International Airport’s major events since it became a local authority in 1992.
These include the opening of YVR’s International Terminal Building and the opening of the North Runway in which the community was invited to walk, run and roll on "the world’s largest welcome mat". More than 12,000 people joined in the celebration.
The opening of the newest wing of the International Terminal Building. A week-long calendar of events concluded with a day-long community open house that attracted more than 18,000 people.
A two-day BC Community Airports Conference attended by mayors, economic development officers, Chamber of Commerce presidents and airport managers from BC’s two dozen airport communities. Topics ranged from the new reality of airport security, to travel, trade and tourism in the years ahead.
The Pace Group has also organized two YVR management retreats at Whistler Mountain and in the nearby Callaghan Valley in which team building exercises were based on Olympic-style winter games.
Objectives:
Reinforce YVR’s position as a transparent, community based success story, committed to providing opportunities for British Columbians, their communities and their businesses.
Outcomes:
YVR typically earns 80%-plus in public approval ratings and is regarded by residents as a major community asset with an international profile and well earned reputation as one of the world’s great airports. Its success is due, in no small measure, to its community activities and initiatives.
